jdee Consultancy, who carried out work on the recent, national New Types of Worker project in Lancashire, have agreed to run a series of 5 workshops across the North West aimed at teams from within 22 local authorities who would be involved in supporting self directed support, individual budgets and the well being agenda. The purpose of the workshops is to highlight the learning from their workforce development programme and share best practice and the resources developed and used within the project.

As part of this project, JDee Consultancy developed and delivered a training programme for front line care workers, developed a training manual for staff, and captured the views of service users (ie. older people with such long term conditions as stroke, MS and arthritis) both before they experienced New Types of Workers, and again after the training had been completed.

One management team reported that the benefits of the training to staff were that their role and value was recognised:

“they felt empowered and more involved with their clients; they liaise with each other, work better as a team and motivation has improved”.

Another organisation observed that absence levels had decreased due to the New Type of Working and that there was a feeling of enhanced team work that was previously unknown.
