Reablement Awarness Roadshow  |  1 Day Learning Programme

Objectives

The objective of the workshop is to raise awarness and increase understanding of how reablement will impact on practice, as operational staff begin to implement a new way of working.

Audience

The workshops reach a diverse number of staff – Community and Hospital Social Workers, Intake and Assessment staff, End of life workers, Occupational Therapists, Physio Therapists, Managers and any other operational staff wanting to grasp the concept of reablement and be confident to put it into practice.

Agenda

What is reablement?

  • An understanding of reablement, its principles, potential, and the therapeutic skills required
  • What does it mean for your organisation: policies, procedures and guidance

Why reablement?

  • Working with individuals in a person centred way so they may regain their self care skills, and where possible be free from ongoing services
  •  Supporting individuals to learn or re‐learn, to improve, to overcome and to recover their abilities in everyday activities

How does reablement work?

  • An understanding of the journey of the customer from the time of referral and through the process of reablement
  • Roles and responsibilities of all service staff

Risk

  • Awareness of the potential for evidence-based risk taking and how it should be managed

Using Government policy and current reablement data to underline the origins of the service, the workshops demonstrate the guiding principles of reablement:

Increased self-determination, choice and control to maintain or regain own abilities, and importantly the opportunity through effective on-going assessment – to ‘recover’ within reablement.

For operational based staff, having knowledge of how reablement is ‘done’ how it is ‘approached’ and how it is ‘delivered’ by the staff on the ground is of huge benefit when assessing, individuals functional ability to undertake and measuring the recovery achieved within a range of everyday activities
